What’s in a room?

Help your au pair adjust to a new home with a nicely furnished Aupair Room.  The Department of State requires an au pair’s room to be private and used for no other purpose (your au pair cannot bunk in your family room or home office), with a locking door.  But what goes inside?

When you’re deciding how to furnish your Au Pair Room, it’s not necessary to go out of the way to provide amenities that wouldn’t normally be present in your home, but creating a comfortable atmosphere with a bed, closet, storage, and a little character is highly recommended.  Ask yourself this question:  How would you decorate and arrange furniture for an aunt or cousin coming for an extended stay?  Your au pair will be a part of your family for at least a year, and will certainly appreciate this simple gesture!
